Reducing Stress: A Self-Compassion Break for Kids, Teens & Caregivers

Everyone experiences stress—whether it’s from personal challenges, the world around us, or both. With so much uncertainty in the world, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed.

For children and adolescents with chronic pain, stress can also come from physical limitations or social interactions. That’s why being kind and compassionate to yourself is so important, especially when you’re dealing with stress or supporting others through theirs.

In this short mindfulness practice (adapted from Dr. Kristin Neff and the Greater Good Science Center at Berkeley), you’ll learn how to:

  • Recognize a stressful moment
  • Remember that suffering is a shared human experience
  • Offer yourself kindness and compassion

This practice is simple, safe, and only takes about five minutes. You can do it on your own, with your child, or even share it with friends and family. A small break makes a big difference.
