Speaker Bio

Sylvanna M. Vargas, PhD, MPH is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in the prevention of adolescent depression and suicide. She is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry at UCLA. The overarching goal of her research is to develop innovative and large-scale solutions that improve the landscape of mental health services for underserved youth experiencing severe mental health concerns.

She has obtained support for her work from the National Institute of Mental Health, Ford Foundation, UC Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, AIM Foundation for Youth Mental Health, American Psychological Foundation, and Foundation for Psychocultural Research.

This webinar titled "Adolescent Depression'' will address critical concerns. We’ll delve into recognizing signs of depression in teenagers, providing attendees with essential knowledge for early intervention. Additionally, participants will gain insights into assessing the risk of suicidality in teens and discovering appropriate actions to take when faced with high risk.
