Dr. Gisela Sandoval earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, where she also completed a Ph.D. in molecular neurobiology and genetics. She is a physician-scientist with dual board certification specializing in medical-psychiatric illness, caring for individuals who suffer from medical conditions at the interface of medicine and psychiatry, which often requires complex chronic care. She heads the pediatric functional neurological disorders (FND) clinic at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital. She is the Director of Clinical Neuroscience of the Division of Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences and an attending physician in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Besides her clinical expertise in functional neurological disorders in youth, she is interested in the history of psychiatry, especially in the history of contagion of somatic symptoms.
